Ghazni Turkoman (Turkman) Artistry - Afghanistan
A collection of 11 ethnic cylinder beads with silver wire whipped circular frames which are wrapped around dark onyx enamel inlay (resembling gemstones) - are distinctly middle eastern.
Tribal and ethnic in every sense, these handmade beads have been crafted by the nomadic Ghazni Turkoman people – an ethnic group native to Central Asia and living mainly in Turkmenistan, and the east and north eastern regions of Afghanistan and Iran.
They can be used to create ethnic-inspired statement jewellery such as earrings, necklaces, bracelets or anklets.
They are hollow, crudely designed, but smooth in texture, while each bead is individually crafted by hand in the Turkoman style.
The beads are often used as currency when trading for goods.
In this collection, the 11 beads weigh in at about 20 grams - have been discounted and now cost $5.00 each.
All our ethnic Turkoman beads contain a decent 1.5-2.5mm drill hole which is suitable for threading with head pins, round leather, tigertail or craftline (similar to fishing line).
