Here we have a fascinating collection of 50 rondelle-shaped beads that have been carved out of the horns of long-haired Yak cows which are native to Himalayan regions including the Indian subcontinent, Nepal, Mongolia, Siberia, Pakistan, and Tibet.
Colours range between black and dark brown, and dark maroon to a paler rusty, yellowish topaz.
Yak horn is fast becoming a sought-after commodity because of its rarity.
With dwindling herds throughout the Himalayas, Yak horn today has become quite collectible.
Along with the carving of beads, the Yak horn is also used to make hair combs.
A very healthy addition to a beaders collection, these rondelles will allow for optimum creativity and temper exciting jewellery-making prospects – ideal ingredients for chunky ethnic-styled necklaces and bracelets.
While the collection weighs approximately 150 grams, the beads cost $0.60 each.
