Collection: Out of the Far East

The Far East is a region of the world that conjures images of exotic and only imaginable places – oozing with the aromas of spices and streetside food, bustling alleyways lined with hordes of people and crowded marketplaces.

According to the World Atlas, the Far East is a term used to describe the geographical, economic, and cultural area that encompasses Eastern Russia (Siberia in particular), East Asia, and Southeast Asia.

The use of this term dates back to 12th century Europe, when the ruling class, explorers, traders, and travellers took an eastern route to reach this area.

And from this area come some of the world’s most exciting beads – made by gifted men and women - artisans carving out a living using only the materials available to them.

And we are extremely fortunate to have a good selection of these beads

These include the exemplary hand-beaten white metal beads by the Turkoman ethnic group native to Central Asia and the nomadic Sunni Muslims known as Kazakh’s – originally from the Ural Mountains who settled in northern Afghanistan to continue creating their metal tribal beads with semi-precious stone inlay.

Our collection comprises a selection of almost 50 types of bone beads, which are hand-made throughout Asia, in particular the Indian sub-continent, Thailand, Indonesia, Borneo and China.

And also, Himalayan Brass Beads with Turquoise and Coral Inlay resemble a mosaic like finish.

Tribal and ethnic in every sense, these handmade beads have been crafted by the nomadic people of Tibet and Nepal – a group native to the high altitude regions of the Himalayas.
