Here we have an exciting collection of Italian-style chevron glass beads from India.
This particular multicoloured bead mix contains approximately 185 beads ranging in size from 10mm to 16mm.
Each bead has a 1.5-2.5mm threading hole and comes in a variety of shapes including tubes, ovals, stubbies, and disks.
Chevron beads were first created by glass bead makers in Venice and Murano, toward the tail end of the 14th century.
These very attractive and collectible vintage-style beads are made with numerous layered coloured glass canes being fused together by heat to create a star-like end mold.
Once the canes cool down, they are cut into short lengths and then ground or beveled to reveal the chevron’s distinctive pattern.
The beads in this collection will allow for optimum creativity and temper exciting jewellery prospects – ideal ingredients for necklaces, bracelets, and earrings.
Very affordable at a little over $0.14 each.
India is one of the largest bead producers in the world - with the majority of beads being produced in Varanasi – located in the northeast of the sub-continent.
However, these chevron beads were made in Purdalpur – another key bead-making community.
The collection weighs in at a little over 154 grams.
