A wonderful collection of four Yak Horn necklaces that have been carved out of the horns of long-haired Yak cows - native to Himalayan regions including the Indian subcontinent, Nepal, Mongolia, Siberia, Pakistan, and Tibet.
The collection comprises two topaz-coloured necklaces, 53cms in length – with 48 graduated rondelle-shaped beads sized 18-24mm.
The other two comprises two smaller necklaces, 49.5cms in length – with 77 graduated rondelle-shaped beads sized 8-15mm. One piece is black, the other topaz.
Yak horn is fast becoming a sought-after commodity because of its rarity.
With dwindling herds throughout the Himalayas, Yak horn today has become quite collectible.
Along with the carving of beads, the Yak horn is also used to make hair combs.
A very healthy addition to a beaders collection, these rondelles will allow for optimum creativity and temper exciting jewellery-making prospects – ideal ingredients for chunky ethnic-styled necklaces and bracelets.
While the collection weighs approximately 385 grams, the necklaces cost $27.50 each.
